I’ve taken some pains to define this site and this effort as the Bamboo Bicycle Trailer Project. I did that because I wanted to distinguish it from a bamboo bicycle trailer. In other words, it’s the project and efforts to adapt a design, build and use the trailer rather than the materials used. I retained “bamboo trailer” in the name and title because I owe a great deal to Nick Lobnitz at Carry Freedom for the inspiration, plans and work to make possible a home built bicycle trailer. His plans focus on the use of bamboo, though not exclusively. It makes sense given his vision that these trailers can be built in developing countries where bamboo is often plentiful and has been used for many purposes by artisans for years.
If you are finding some dissonance about a bicycle trailer under the moniker of “bamboo,” I understand. However, my choice of materials is consistent with the intent of using bamboo: locally sourced and available.
